This morning, around 10, the vault of the tunnel along the provincial road 72 which connects Lierna with Varenna collapsed. The landslide would have occurred in the short Fiumelatte tunnel due to a landslide. As reported by the Fire Brigade, a car was involved. The driver involved is unharmed.
What happened
From the first images that circulate, it can be seen how different material collapsed from the upper part of the tunnel invading the roadway, with a real hole clearly visible on the roof. As LeccoToday underlines, the cause of the collapse would be due to an impressive landslide detached from the ridge above the infrastructure. All the Municipalities involved, the Fire Brigade, the Province of Lecco and also the Civil Protection have been alerted: at the moment the road has been closed in order to allow both structural checks and the safety of a section that is not new to similar events.

Stop the trains
As LeccoOnline points out, the circulation of trains was also blocked, with the tracks that in that section flow into another tunnel, further upstream than the Sp72, whose cover was submerged by the mud and rock that slipped downstream.
