Terrasi wins the 47th Pistoia-Abetone

Alessio Terrasi won his third Italian champion title, after that of 2018 in the marathon in Ravenna and that of 2023 in Castelbolognese on his debut in the 50 km, in the 47th edition of the historic Pistoia – Abetone race which ran on Sunday 30 June 2024.

The athlete from Altofonte, now “adopted runner” in Tuscany, registered for the GP Parco Alpi Apuane, began the selection on the leading group that included Simone Pessina, Matteo Lucchese, already winner of the race, Filippo Bovanini and the ultramarathon runner Marco Menegardi after the intermediate finish line of S. Marcello at the 30th km. Terrasi alone climbed the last 17 km and epic hairpin bends of Abetone cheered on by the large crowd, arriving triumphant with arms raised in the Piazza delle Piramidi at 1388 meters above sea level after 50 km of racing with a good time of 3h 35′.

The race valid as the absolute test of the Italian championship of the 50 km road specialty saw the podium composed of Alessio Terrasi, Italian champion, Simone Pessina, already second in 2023, and third the young emerging Sicilian Dario Pietro Ferrante.

There was a strong participation of other athletes of the GP Parco Alpi Apuane with 21st place for Nicola Cappelli in 4 h 39′, 81st place for Luca Russo in 5h 23′ in the absolute category.

In the women’s category, excellent 5th place overall for Andreea Lucaci in 4h 54” with a good performance by Barbara De Martis while in the veterans’ classification, excellent performances by Andrea Mori and Roberto Formai.
