Cogne is without drinking water. “This is a priority to resolve.” The head of the Aosta Valley Civil Protection says so, Valerio Segor. “Cogne has more than one aqueduct, but the one that supplies the town – the water comes from Valnontey – has been seriously damaged – explains Segor -. We are working to try to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Cogne currently has no drinking water.”
“We expect to open a tractor-friendly road to Valnontey and fix the aqueduct soon,” the mayor announced. Franco Allera.
Evacuations
To the approximately evacuees of yesterday are added the same number of people today. In all, about a thousand, mostly tourists who decided to return to their homes.
“We are evaluating the situation – explains the President of the Region, Renzo Testolin -. There are few residents who have decided to stay downstream.”
The Adava members – the Hoteliers Association of the Aosta Valley – have made beds available free of charge for the evacuees in the structures located throughout the area. “All available places have been used – says Segor -. The different situations of residents are being evaluated, for those who necessarily have to go to the workplace downstream, such as medical staff. For regional employees, the possibility of smart working could be opened up, even if there is the problem of connectivity: the optical fiber has failed and the connections are currently analogue”.
“Let the message pass that helicopters can be used for evacuations and supplies of basic necessities, from food to medicines, and not for going back and forth between Cogne and Aosta and vice versa – underlines Testolin -. The situation is different for graduating students, who will be able to use the air service”.
