Since yesterday evening, the men of the Piedmont Civil Protection have been at work, led by the sector manager Frank DeGiglio to follow the progress of the disturbance and coordinate the interventions in close collaboration with the Prefectures of Turin and Verbano Cusio Ossola.
“Since yesterday evening I have been in personal contact with the mayors of the affected areas: we have monitored throughout the evening and into the night the progress of the disturbance that has hit some areas of Piedmont – declares the President of the Region Alberto Cirio – The most serious damage was recorded on the Gran Paradiso front, in the Canavese area, in the Orco and Lanzo valleys and in the Macugnaga area. The regional room is operational and our technicians are at work and are reaching the affected areas for an initial assessment of the damage and to identify, together with the Municipalities, the first urgent restoration interventions. I am in contact with the Valle d’Aosta Region and this morning I spoke on the phone to the Head of the National Civil Protection Department, Fabrizio Curcio, regarding the request for a state of emergency”.
The Civil Protection announces that particularly significant situations affected the Orco Valley and the Soana Valley during the night. Volunteers were on site and supported the administrations involved in the event.
In Chialamberto there are three isolated hamlets and the precautionary evacuation of two condominiums was ordered for a total of about 20 people, hosted in the rooms set up in the municipal gym with the support of volunteers.
Between Noasca and Locana there is a landslide which prevents traffic on the state road 460 for Ceresole Reale: the Metropolitan City began removal operations this morning.

The firefighters evacuated on foot, beyond the landslide, 35 people who were in a restaurant for dinner and who spent the night in a center set up in Locana.
It is worth noting the intervention of the Turin firefighters carried out last night between Montanaro and San Benigno Canavese to rescue two adults and a 3-month-old baby stuck in their car due to rising water in the Orco torrent.
During the night, the territory of the Ivrea hydraulic node was also monitored, as there was a significant increase in the levels of the Dora Baltea, which in Valle d’Aosta in some stations exceeded the danger/red level. The flood in Piedmont passed during the night with levels contained within the warning level.
Critical situation also in Macugnaga, in Verbano Cusio Ossola. A stream that crosses the town overflowed and flooded the road leading to the centre, preventing access to the Staffa area. Teams of the Fire Brigade, Alpine Rescue and volunteers from the Regional Coordination are operating. There is no electricity for around 1500 users, for which Enel’s operations center has arranged to send personnel to allow the restoration of the service, which is complicated due to the expansion of some cabins. At the moment, around 500 have been restored.

What has just passed was a night of intense work for the staff of the Road Management 1 of the Metropolitan City of Turin, who intervened in the Orco and Soana Valleys, in the Lanzo Valleys and in other areas including the Canavese plain to deal with the emergency created by the heavy rainfall yesterday evening.
In Valle Orco, work is underway to free the Provincial Road 460 from the landslide that fell near Fornolosa di Locana and to ensure trafficability as soon as possible in the section between Fey and Fornolosa. Already yesterday evening, a local contractor intervened to limit the damage. This morning, other vehicles from contractors, personnel from the Traffic Management 1 and the Fire Brigade are at work to remove the material present on the roadway. Work is underway to allow transit to emergency vehicles, residents and tourists who were stranded in the upper valley by the end of the morning. In Noasca, the bridge along the SP 460, closed as a precaution yesterday evening, is passable again.
On the Provincial 47 of Val Soana in Ingria il material fallen onto the roadway following one brake it was removed thanks to means made available by the Municipality and a contractor from the metropolitan city. Transit is permitted with caution and the road surface is being cleaned.

In the Great Valley of Lanzoon the Provincial Road 33 in Chialamberto at the moment it is the bridge over the Vassola stream was closed as a precautionwith a diversion onto a municipal road. Technical assessments are underway for the verification of any undermining of the riverbed cliffs near the bridge.
