Moments of fear this morning in via Capri in Villa Rosa di Martinsicuro. Around 9am, an elderly couple experienced moments of terror when their Fiat Panda caught fire.
The couple had just parked the old model Panda and, when they got out of the car, they noticed a strange smell. Worried, they opened the hood, discovering that there was already the beginning of a fire. Within moments, the flames spread rapidly, causing an explosion.
The fire immediately attracted the attention of passers-by and residents of the area. The column of smoke, clearly visible even from the beach, attracted the attention of numerous swimmers who then flocked to the scene of the accident. The firefighters, the carabinieri and the municipal police intervened promptly on the spot to put out the flames and make the area safe.
The carabinieri from the Martinsicuro station also arrived to support traffic management. The fire occurred, in fact, in a car park a stone’s throw from the sea and from the intersection between Via Capri and the seafront, a highly touristy area with many swimmers who were about to start their morning on the beach.
Unfortunately, the fire also damaged another car parked next to the Panda. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the accident deeply shocked the local community.
Firefighters are now investigating to determine the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the residents of Via Capri remain worried about what happened, hoping that similar episodes will not be repeated in the future.
