Yet this time numbers are not enough to weigh the weight of this victory, we need to go a little further. We need to talk about dreams, hopes, what we will do when we grow up. We need to talk about sport, territory, opportunities.
Massimiliano Coletta, president of the team, knows this well and is the first to believe in this crazy idea of bringing women’s football, for girls and boys, to this part of the province. “We started as a bet – He tells us – and then it turned out to be a beautiful journey where the greatest satisfaction comes from building a group of happy girls satisfied with their passion”. There are Amira and Gaia, Ridhi and Giada, Sofia and Aurora and then Martina, Anastasia, Diletta, Beatrice, Valentina. Someone left, someone else joined. For some it was the first time, for others it was the first step to follow in the footsteps of their older brothers or to cultivate mum and dad’s passion. For everyone, however, it was an opportunity to test themselves, to grow, to play, to have fun, to learn, to be in a team, to win and to lose. An important opportunity, in an area where there are fewer and fewer spaces and moments for socializing and sport.
Behind all this, obviously, there is a hidden job that lasts more than just a season. “First of all, I would like to thank the parents for believing in our challenge – continues Massimiliano Colettapresident of Faleria – our goal is to grow immediately from next season. The Under 10 women’s five-a-side football championship is an experimental championship created by National Amateur League of Lazio to introduce the little ones to the world of football. Faleria won on the last day, without even having to take the field: Fiumicino’s defeat against Hell Valley was enough to confirm the first position of the yellow and blue team. 12 points, the result of 3 wins and 3 draws, 15 goals scored and 14 conceded. Behind all the others: Fiumicino, Hell Valley, Anguillara Calcio and Atletico Civitavecchia. “It was an experience full of growth, commitment and satisfaction, not only for the girls – explained one of the coaches, Virginia Densi – The result isn’t important but this was a great end to the year”.
When we ask the president what the objectives are for the future, the ideas are immediately clear: “We are aiming for Serie A. No joke: the national team. In the pipeline we have the creation of teams with different age groups and we would like to create a women’s team, including adults”. The road is long, of course, but in the meantime it has been traced. The appointment is next year, next season. Meanwhile, the Faleria players go on holiday with a championship won in their pockets. Not exactly everyone’s thing, right?
