The new mayor is Marialuisa Forte (wide field) who surpasses the centre-right candidate Aldo De Benedittis, obtaining 51% of the votes, against 49% of her rival. The result of the first round was overturned, where De Benedittis seemed certain of victory and only after the recount of the votes requested by the other candidates was the run-off certified. Voter turnout was 49%.

Thus the result of the first round is overturned, when De Benedittis had come close to victory – which had also initially been announced, until the recount of the ballots requested by the other candidates – with 48% of the votes, while Forti had been voted for by 32% of voters.

On the morning of Tuesday 11 June, the representatives of the various lists linked to the candidates Marialuisa Forte and Pino Ruta went to the Municipality and the Prefecture to ask for clarifications and verify the correctness of the data communicated. Only three days after the polls closed, the Central Electoral Office meeting in Palazzo San Giorgio communicated the correct data and sanctioned the ballot.

The definitive turnout figure is 49%, down 16 points compared to that of the first round, when 65% of voters went to vote – in those same days they were also voting for the European elections.

For the last five years the municipality of Campobasso has been governed by the Five Star Movement. Roberto Gravina he had won the elections in 2019 and held the position of mayor of the Molise capital until 2023, the date on which – after running to govern the Molise region – he joined the regional council. Due to the incompatibility of the two positions, he had to leave his role as mayor Paola Felice (M5S), first female mayor of Campobasso.
