Italy spends money on welcoming migrants 945 euros per month each. Figure multiplied by i 24,477 foreigners landed from the beginning of 2024 until June 21st (data from the Ministry of the Interior drawer) brings the burden for Italian coffers to almost 25 million euros.

The first day of presence of every migrant in Italy it costs the pockets of Italian taxpayers 350 euros. This is just the beginning of the expenses. In fact, each migrant receives a first entry kit, costing 150 euros each.

Another significant cost concerns i Permanence Centers for Repatriation (CPR). Based on state budgets, Italy actually spends around 50 million euros on CPRs. These centers are essential for the repatriation of migrants, but every repatriation operation it costs around 3,500 euros per person, a non-negligible sum for public finances.

To these costs must be added those of consultancy, state-sponsored lawyers(none of the migrants in fact pays a euro for lawyers), mediators, psychologists, health costs and law enforcement.

In addition to this, and no one says it, there is further damage to the community: qthat which is caused by criminals, drug dealers and behaviors against the common good which naturally falls on the shoulders and bank accounts of citizens.

A bottomless pit that brings the cost of welcoming migrants in Italy to around 4 billion euros. A figure that is no longer sustainable.

If we make a comparison with the Def of 2017 and 2018 the numbers are almost always the same. In 2018, the expected expenditure for the reception of migrants was approximately 4.7 billion euros (to be precise, 4.648 billion euros). In 2017, 4.363 billion euros were spent, in line with the data in the Budget Plan from the previous year. which highlighted the constant increase from 2011 to 2017 in spending estimates for the migrant crisis.

As reported by the Ministry of the Interior, if the landings continue at this rate, they will probably be there presence of migrants on Italian soil will be approximately that of 2023.

To date we have reached 24,477 (unofficial data linked to identified landings). In summary, the costs of welcoming migrants are high and continually growing, raising questions about economic sustainability and the policies for managing migratory flows in Italy.

The ethnicity of the landings changes: Bangladeshi citizens are the majority, Syrian citizens are increasing. Migrants arriving from North Africa are decreasing, those from Central Africa and Asia are increasing.
