The Velletri Fire Brigade, together with the local Civil Protection Volunteers, intervened last night around 7pm to put out a fire that had spread along the ridge of Lake Nemi, in the section going down from Piazza Dante Alighieri onto Via Diana .
The fire started due to a possible short circuit in the capacitor of a public lighting pole and immediately caused the flames to develop quickly and suddenly given that the vegetation is very dry due to the great heat. The prompt intervention of the fire rescuers made it possible to immediately contain the flames in less than an hour and prevent them from spreading to the dense bush, where there are also piles of waste thrown by unscrupulous hands in a protected landscape area of the regional park of Castles.
Teams of Enel workers and technicians also intervened on site to restore the electronic device that had caught fire and electricity in the area. There was also “fake news” circulating, reporting on a website that a loud bang preceded the fire. News denied by the police and rescuers who intervened on site.
The firefighters of Nemi and Frascati also had to intervene in San Cesareo with several hours of work to deal with a large fire in a patch of scrubland in via di Pallavicina.
Some Civil Protection vehicles and operators from nearby municipalities also assisted. The fire started maliciously around 8.45 in the morning, the intervention ended around 1pm.
