The fourteenth match of the calendar year for the Settebello ends with a 10-5 win over France, the next hosts at the Paris Olympics. At the Stadio del Nuoto in Rome, after the finals of the first day of the 60th Settecolli Trophy, Sandro Campagna’s national team is enjoying a nice haul of precious information and encouraging signs in view of the five-circle event. The Italian lead was sealed by Giacomo Cannella who took advantage of the first numerical superiority, but France responded with Vanpeperstraete again in the first set. Vernoux scored from a penalty at the start of the second half, but Iocchi Gratta and Di Somma organized the counter-overtaking within a minute, before the new French equalizer by Izdinsky, who took advantage of the superiority. There is also space in the scoresheet for Condemi, as well as for Iocchi Gratta’s second seal. At the end of the third period, Giacomo Cannella scores the score at 6-5. It is the prelude to Italian domination in the final, which sees three Azzurri embellish their scoreboard: Condemi scores a brace, Iocchi Gratta allows himself a hat trick, while Cannella pushes himself to the fourth. The final result is 10-5. The Settebello will return to the water on Wednesday 26 June at 8.00pm in Florence with Romania. Then the trip to Alghero from 4 to 6 June (3 matches) for the “Sardinia Cup” and the one from 10 to 13 July in Budapest with the Four Nations. The last two matches before the Olympic Games will be with Hungary and Japan in Syracuse on 19 and 20 July.
