Reader Rita Gaviraghi, after a long hospital stay following a road accident which occurred on February 15th, would like to share her positive experience and thank the staff of the Orthopedics and Traumatology department of theVarese Circle Hospital. In a letter he expressed his gratitude for the attention and assistance received during the four months of hospitalization and treatment.

Dear Readers, Dear Editor,
after a very long but positive experience following an accident in which I was involved last February 15th (hit by a scooter while crossing the Sempione on a pedestrian crossing), I would like to retrace my long ‘path’ and start a new one , literally.

I found truly unique assistance and attention at the Orthopedics and Traumatology department of the Circolo di Varese hospital. I was hospitalized three times, of which the first hospitalization lasted for 54 days; then a day hospital; finally a short hospital stay for definitive surgery on the tibia. The last discharge dates back to June 10: almost four months after the accident.

I want to thank all of Professor D’Angelo’s staff (always attentive and ready to check and recheck what to do) with particular regard to the De Falco surgeons (whose willingness to dialogue with the patient and their promptness in tackling the entire process I remember). operating, to guarantee its continuity) and Mazzacane (very kind in receiving instructions from the former in his singular dual role as sportsman and doctor, which I believe helps in considering many aspects of trauma and recovery).

I would like to mention with pleasure the good orthopedists who followed me in the ward and in the outpatient clinic (doctors Puricelli, Corti, Marconi and Bardellini, to name those with whom I interacted the most).
I want to extend my gratitude to all the Plastic Surgery staff, working in close collaboration with Orthopedics and led by Professor Valdatta (always brilliant and ironic, for the benefit of the patient), with many young doctors, in whose hands I placed myself felt cared for, safe, protected.

I was told that I was very ‘patient’: in reality, it wasn’t difficult to rely with hope and tranquility on such helpful people. As a teacher, accustomed to reflections and evaluations, I judge favorably that I have perhaps contributed with my work to training some of these young doctors, who in return have ‘put me back on my feet’.

Thanks again to all the nursing and healthcare staff, to the physiotherapists, to all those who work with passion and attention, in a context that sometimes does not repay the efforts made.

A big hug to everyone and the hope of coming to visit you walking on my legs quickly.

Rita Gaviraghi
