Tragedy on the morning of Thursday 20 June in Brembio, in the Lodi area, where an 18-year-old boy died from a work accident. Pierpaolo Bodini, the victim, was crushed under a heavy agricultural vehicle. Areu rescuers intervened on site, but there was nothing that could be done for the young worker.
The fatal accident
The dramatic accident occurred around 10 am today in the Bassanetti company in via Cavour. According to an initial reconstruction, the boy was carrying out some maintenance work on one seeder together with a 20-year-old colleague, when a piece of the machinery broke off and hit him directly. The young man didn’t have time to move: he died instantly.
The investigations
An investigation has been opened on the case file in the Prosecutor’s Office in Lodi, at the moment without any hypothesis of crime. Also at work are the carabinieri of the Codogno company and the ATS experts who will have to ascertain whether all the safety regulations imposed on the workplace have been applied and respected. “We are all speechless. Dying at work is something that makes you even more angry. We know about the victim that he was a hard worker“, said the mayor of Brembio Oriana Ghidotti.
Who was the victim
Pierpaolo Bodini had been working for about a year on the Bassanetti agricultural company, which in the past had belonged to his grandfather. On social media the young man shared many photo of tractors and others with friends. Last night, less than 24 hours before the tragedy, she had uploaded a story on Instagram, in which she showed a thresher, tagging the company.
La Russa: “Zero tolerance”
Yesterday morning a 31-year-old Indian citizen, Satnam Singh, died at the San Camillo hospital in Rome after being the victim of an accident at work. “I learned with deep sorrow of the disappearance of an 18-year-old boy who was crushed by an agricultural machine in the province of Lodi and of an Indian laborer who died in the province of Latina after being injured at work and subsequently left abandoned without any rescue. Two cases that are different at first glance but which once again see security and exploitation heavily impacting people’s lives“, the president of the Senate wrote on Facebook Ignazio La Russa about what happened in the last 24 hours.
“In addressing my heartfelt thoughts to their loved ones, their families, their colleagues, we reiterate the need – we read in the post – to continue to create the best conditions so that not only everyone can work safely but also to reaffirm that no tolerance will ever be allowed to those who exploit workers and trample on their rights”.
