Forest fire prevention measures, ordinance of the Mayor of Martina Franca:
Following the Decree of the President of the Puglia Region (n. 260 of 7 June 2024) which declares the state of serious danger for fires in all wooded areas, pastures or with the presence of trees and bushes in the Puglia Region, in the period 15 June – 30 September 2024, Mayor Gianfranco Palmisano orders (n. 20 of 12 June 2024) owners, tenants, tenants or managers in any capacity, public and private bodies, to adopt the fire prevention measures provided for by Regional Law no. . 38/2016.
Regional regulations require:
- to the managers of cereal and fodder cultivation fields in any capacity to create a perimeter and within the cultivated area by 15 July preceded o protective strip free of vegetation, for a continuous and constant width of at least 15 meters and in any case such as to prevent the fire from spreading to the surrounding and/or neighboring areas;
- to owners, tenants and tenants, for any reason, of uncultivated land in a state of abandonment and/or fallow and of tree crops to create protective strips or preceded of a width of no less than 15 meters along the entire perimeter of the bottom, free of vegetation, so as to prevent any fire from spreading to surrounding and/or neighboring areas;
- owners, tenants, tenants, public and private bodies responsible for the management, maintenance and conservation of the woods are obliged to carry out the restoration and cleaning, including mechanical, of the firebreaks by 31 May of each year;
- to owners and operators in any capacity of wooded areas bordering other crops of any type as well as roads, motorways and railways, inhabited centers and isolated homes to provide at their own expense, to reserve a protective strip on their property at least 5 meters wide free from herbaceous species, brambles and necromass;
- to owners, tenants and tenants, in any capacity, of grazing areas, the obligation to create a perimeter protection strip free of vegetation of at least 5 meters and in any case such as to ensure that the fire does not spread to the surrounding and/or neighboring areas .
