A dramatic accident has shaken the Potentino community. On the SS 585 Noce valley floor, on the border between Lagonegro and Rivello, a collision between a car and a motorbike caused the death of local singer-songwriter Nicola Colombo. The impact, the causes of which are yet to be ascertained, was fatal for the driver of the car. Despite thetimely intervention by 118 health workers, there was nothing that could be done for Columbus; the doctors were only able to confirm his death.
The police, who immediately arrived on site, are working to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident. Meanwhile, the Potentino community is mourning the loss of a man who had managed to win the hearts of many with his songs and its commitment to promoting local culture. Nicola Colombo, known for his passion for popular music and Lucanian tradition, leaves behind his wife and three children. There were numerous messages of condolence. The mayor of Lagonegro, Salvatore Falabella, the artist’s country of origin, declared: «The community of Lagonegro was profoundly shaken by the premature death of one of our beloved fellow citizens. Nicola had the ability to interpret the complexity of simple feelings with lightness and cheerfulness. We are all close to his family in this moment of pain.” Even the mayor of Lauria, Gianni Pittella, expressed his pain: «Nicola was an exceptional artist, capable of enhancing the ancient Lucanian singing traditions with a unique passion and empathy. We will always remember the many evenings spent together singing and dancing thanks to his tireless voice.” Condolences also came from the Order of Nursing Professions of Potenza. The president, Serafina Robertucci, commented: «The nursing community mourns the tragic passing of our dear colleague from the surgery department of the Lagonegro hospital, Nicola Colombo. On behalf of all the bodies of the Order, I express deep condolences to the family and to those who knew him.”
