Rome, 17 June 2024 – The NGO Resqship has denounced yet another Mediterranean tragedy on its social profiles, reporting the deaths of ten migrants found in the hull of a wooden boat. The Nadir ship managed to bring 51 people to safety, but for ten others rescue arrived too late.
Migrants, ten dead refugees found
According to what was declared by the NGO Resqship, “there were a total of 61 migrants on board: 51 were evacuated, two of them unconscious; 10 others were found lifeless on the lower deck of the boat“. The NGO team also intervened with an ax to break the hull and enter inside the boat, in a desperate attempt to save as many lives as possible. “The overcrowded boat had suffered an engine failure and was in a critical situation. Our crew intervened immediately and provided the 62 people on board with the necessary rescue equipment to ensure their safety,” the NGO wrote. The boat had left Libya and had been traveling for a few days.
In agreement with the competent authorities, the boat was towed towards Lampedusa. The crew performed the operation and towed the boat safely throughout the night.
