First day as a free woman for Ilaria Salis: “I’ve finally returned home”

“I’m finally back home! The joy of seeing my loved ones again in person and sharing our lives again is indescribable”, begins Ilaria Salis in a post on her Facebook page through which she announces that she has returned home today, Monday 17 June, the day of her 40th birthday.
The request for release was filed by her Hungarian lawyer Gyorgy Magyar immediately after her election as an MEP with Avs and on Friday 14 June she was released from house detention.
Ilaria Salis, a teacher of Sardinian origins, was arrested on 11 February 2023 on charges of attacking far-right militants. Her father, Roberto Salis, initially a supporter of his daughter’s innocence, fought to have her return to Italy.
“This week I want to dedicate myself first and foremost to this and I will begin to prepare with seriousness and determination for this new adventure – said Ilaria Salis – I will live up to the great trust you have given me. At this moment my communication will not be marked by times and media needs. We’ll talk to you soon!”.
Hundreds of comments under the post of the new MEP, among those of support and good wishes for the work that awaits her, “We are all with you and with healthy and honest people like you. My grandfather who gave his life to fight the Nazi-fascists would be proud of you”, “It’s right that politics came to your aid. They gave us a valid reason to go and vote”, and those against her election and her release, “Now they will make you a saint”, “You should hide, you are a terrible example”.
