Three young lives shattered in the workplace. Three family men, three husbands, three workers who left in the morning to go to work in Brianza and never returned home. Tragic days for workers in Brianza: a 42-year-old bricklayer died in Monza, in Brugherio the tragic death of a 25-year-old worker devoured by flames and yesterday, Saturday 16 June, a 33-year-old carpenter died in Sovico. All three were workers who had left their country (Egypt, Gambia and Morocco) to seek a better future in Brianza.

And for these umpteenth white deaths the PCI of Monza and Brianza is asking for an immediate change of direction. “For too long, institutions, control bodies and entrepreneurs themselves have underestimated and often given up on addressing the issue of health and safety in the workplace – we read in the official note -. Job insecurity, competitiveness for maximum profit, reduction in productive investments, subcontracting, financialization of the economy determine the conditions for the sacrifice of thousands of workers every year”.

The PCI asks for more concrete intervention from the institutions. “We want a law that specifically recognizes death and injury in the workplace. Recognize and guarantee adequate compensation to the affected families. Risk prevention with better and healthier working environments by increasing and qualifying the number of inspectors,” he concludes.
