Accident in A1, the fifth in a month. Traffic at a standstill: six kilometers of queue

Yet another, but unfortunately now almost usual morning to forget yesterday for those passing through the Valdarno section of the Autosole. Caused by a new accident, the fifth in a month. Shortly before 10am, at kilometer 321 of the north lane, between the Valdarno and Incisa Reggello toll booths, the driver of a car lost control of his vehicle which overturned. No other vehicle was involved in the crash, but the two people on board were injured. The most serious is a 22-year-old young man, transferred with the Pegaso air ambulance to the Florentine hospital in Careggi where he is hospitalized under code red. The eighteen-year-old who was traveling with him, however, was transported to the emergency room of the Santa Maria alla Gruccia garrison and the doctors took her into care under code yellow. The motorists who witnessed the scene and the Valdarno 118 medical vehicle, the ambulance from the Misericordia di San Giovanni, the firefighters from the Montevarchi detachment and the Traffic Police who carried out the legal investigations. The queues reaching peaks of 6 kilometers were instantaneous. It is only the latest in a series of worrying episodes for the A1 segment which crosses the valley floor and which was the scene of four accidents in May. The toll was very heavy with two deaths, a couple of pensioners, on the 29th of last month, in the huge collision between cars and trucks and a long series of injuries. Those who cross the motorway access barrier every day point their fingers at the work in progress and the roadway narrowings present, obviously without underestimating the human factor, from distraction to excessive speed, talking about an obstacle course that lengthens the time to reach the goal and increases insecurity. A situation which, in the event of emergencies or closures on the A1, inevitably has repercussions on Regionale 69 and the surrounding roads, creating an increase in traffic on often clogged arteries. The hope is that most of the problems can be resolved with the construction of the third lane, the executive project of which will be presented by September with the opening of the construction site expected in 2025, at least according to the announcement made a few months ago by the CEO of Autostrade per Italy Roberto Tomasi. A total of 16 kilometers of expected work will also have positive repercussions for the municipalities crossed on both sides of the valley, thanks to compensation measures worth 50 million euros.
