The Permanent Services Conference has approved the earthquake damage repair project for the church of the Immaculate Conception in Pollenza, in the province of Macerata. The work is financed with 332 thousand euros.

I want to thank Monsignor Nazareno Marconi and the Diocese of Macerata-Tolentino-Recanati-Cingoli-Treia because the challenge of reconstructing such a vast heritage is not simple but necessary. In the same way I want to remember the daily commitment of the Special Reconstruction Office of the Marche, mirror of a strategic and timely vision that I share with President Francesco Acquaroli on what the reconstruction of the central Apennines of the Marche should be. We must rebuild the houses, but also the entire urban fabric that makes a country livable and attractive. Churches are also important for this reason: places of culture, spirituality and identity that we must repair as best we can to make them last over time.”, declares the Commissioner for Reconstruction Guido Castelli.

The church already existed in the 17th century, and was rebuilt in 1821. The 2016 earthquake caused minor structural damage, which included damage to the main façade and the bell tower and detachments of the internal vaults. In addition to repairing the damage, the project also includes the seismic improvement of the building, so that it can better resist future tremors. The decorative devices will also be restored.

In the Diocese of Macerata-Tolentino-Recanati-Cingoli-Treia, 75 interventions are planned, for a total of 46.5 million euros.
