Bologna, 15 June. (askanews) – “I owe a lot to Flavia. She owes little to me, but I owe her a lot”. With these moving words, the former Prime Minister, Romano Prodi, remembered his wife Flavia Franzoni, who passed away a year ago, on 13 June 2023, due to an illness while the couple was completing a stage of the journey on the Via di San Francesco in Umbria together with some friends.

The occasion of the commemoration of Prodi’s wife is the meeting “A bench to meet. A memory of Flavia Franzoni Prodi” organized at Repubblica delle Idee in Bologna. At the speakers’ table were two university professors, colleagues of Franzoni, Marisa Anconelli and Paolo Zurla, experts in social policies and welfare. “The title ‘a bench’ describes well the spirit of Flavia – said Romano Prodi – in which the problem of equality and of the dialogue was absolutely dominant. The bench is the most equal place that exists, at least as far as I know. Therefore it reflects well the content of today’s discussion which concerns the problem of the social state, of balance and of equality they have always been very dear to Flavia to whom I owe a lot. She owes me little, but I owe her a lot.” In the room, in addition to Prodi, were relatives and close friends.
