Opel Frontera 2024: price, engines, dimensions, release date

After years of seeing increasingly inflated list prices, Opel is now applying a very interesting price list to the new Frontera. Yes, because if the return of a historic name for Opel to the market has been known for a few months, the news of the moment is the attack price. Without mincing words: 24,500 euros for the light hybrid, 29,900 EUR (any discounts relating to the Ecobonus excluded) for electricity. Two super interesting prices if you compare them with those of the competition and if you analyze the car itself, with the aim of repositioning the list prices downwards and at the same time limiting the discounts at the dealership. Important premise before delving into the technical characteristics: forget the Frontera of the late twentieth century/early 2000s. Opel dusts off the name but attributes it to a vehicle – arriving in autumn 2024 and available to order a few weeks after the national launch – completely different from the off-roader of the past.

Opel Frontera: the trim levels

Opel Frontera will be offered in only two versions: Frontera and Frontera GS, with the latter costing 2,000 euros more. Both setups will be “closed packages” without the possibility of adding options, meeting the requirements of intuitiveness, accessibility and essentiality. This brings two advantages: simplicity and clarity in the offer, as well as speed in the production phase and delivery to the customer. you will only be able to choose the color of the bodywork and the possibility of adding two extra seats in the luggage compartment, if necessary for large families (option available in the future). The Frontera trim is more devoted to adventure, with more spartan exteriors but a technical package including, among other things, compatibility with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, navigator, dual 10″ screen and rear-view camera. The GS adds a contrasting black roof, alloy wheels, roof rails, automatic climate control, and heated seats and windshield.

Opel Frontera: dimensions

A top priority for the new Opel Frontera is roadworthiness. Five or seven seats as already mentioned, the SUV is 438 cm long, therefore falling halfway between the B and C segments. More than 450 liters of luggage can be stowed in the trunk; with the seats folded down even up to 1,600 litres. And those who want to spend the night outdoors can simply order the new Opel Frontera with optional roof bars and a roof tent with ladder specially designed for the German SUV. The car can carry up to 240 kg of weight on the roof.

Opel Frontera Hybrid: the engine

The new Opel Frontera is available both in a hybrid version with 48 Volt technology and in a 100% electric version. The Hybrid boasts the well-known 1.2 three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 100 HP of power. This works in combination with a 21 kW (28 HP) electric motor and a 6-speed electrified dual-clutch gearbox, so that fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are significantly lower than a conventionally powered model. Furthermore, the Opel Frontera Hybrid will also be available in the 136 HP power step, using the same powertrain.

Opel Frontera Electric: the engine

Customers who wish to travel electric will be able to order the Opel Frontera Electric with a 44 kWh battery and a range of over 300 km. In this case the power of the engine combined with front-wheel drive will be 113 HP. The “long range” version will be available later and will be able to travel up to approximately 400 km in the WLTP cycle.

Opel Frontera: the exterior

For the first time on a production model, the new restylized Blitz logo debuts in the center of the Vizor, the characteristic grille of the Stellantis group brand which also integrates the full LED light signature. Simple and essential lines alternate with important ribs in the sides and an eye-catching forward-facing C-pillar. At the rear, Opel has opted to insert the Frontera lettering all over the tailgate, while the broken line of the headlights creates dynamism.

Opel Frontera: the interior

The modern look with a focus on the essentials continues seamlessly into the interior. The driver and passengers benefit from a cockpit with a newly designed steering wheel and two 10″ digital screens side by side. The driver and front passenger will be able to test the seating on the new Intelli-Seats, patented with a slot in the center that relieves pressure on the coccyx. The aim was to create an airy and spacious interior: the cleanliness of the central tunnel is underlined by the absence of the gear lever on the version with internal combustion engine, equipped with an automatic gearbox with a space-saving selector.
