Far from the fascist justice of Orban, who yesterday freed the new MEP Ilaria Salis, removed from the trial by the wonder duo Fratoianni and Bonelli. Those who had made Soumahoro a symbol, only to then discover that the family of the deputy with the boots was pocketing millions in funds intended for migrants left without food. Those who made Salis an anti-fascist heroine, to be freed from the chains with a Eurocandidacy, to highlight the violation of human rights by the Hungarian government. And who don’t dream of saying even a word, like the entire left and the Democratic Party, about the judicial fate of Giovanni Toti, increasingly the scapegoat for a political clash in the judiciary, which poorly digests the justice reform of the Meloni government. What a scandal if the news comes out that the mother of the investigating judge Paola Faggioni, in the past, was among the democrats in the Genoa city council. The ANM has raised the barricades: let no one question the independence of the judges. No doubt, in fact. Hungary was so quick in respecting the law that it didn’t even wait for the proclamation of the convicted person in the European Parliament: yesterday it removed the electronic bracelet from Salis, who can now return home. Same speed as the investigating judge of Genoa, who yesterday left the governor of Liguria prisoner at home, under house arrest since May 7th due to the danger «that he may repeat, on the occasion of the next elections, similar corrupt conduct, putting his function at the service of private interests in exchange for benefits for oneself or others”, the investigating judge had written.
With the European elections now closed, the same judge rejected the request to revoke the precautionary measures because she sees the danger of repetition of the crime “in view of the next regional electoral competitions in 2025”, we read. In short, a motivation for all seasons, because round after round, with these conditions, Toti could remain under arrest forever. Unless he himself escapes the perverse yoke. Unlike Ilaria Salis, who had to run to escape the trial in Hungary, Toti must resign from the position of president of the Liguria Region if he wants to regain his freedom. The investigating judge wrote it in black and white, immediately after the confirmation of the existence of the danger in (very distant) view of next year’s elections. «This danger becomes even more concrete when one considers that the aforementioned person still continues to hold the same functions and public positions, with the consequent possibility that they will once again be put at the service of private interests in exchange for funding», motivates the investigating judge, confirming that Toti is imprisoned because he continues to defend the electoral mandate that the citizens gave to the governor in free and democratic elections.
All the more so since it seems elementary, Watson, that a politician hit with a notice of investigation, and in the crosshairs of an ongoing investigation, would be constantly under the investigative spotlight so as not to even try to carry out behavior that would constitute a crime. Indeed, for the judge it is serious even that Toti declares himself innocent, almost as if the presumption of innocence, sanctioned by article 27 of that Constitution to be defended from the fascists, has become an aggravating circumstance. In this reverse Vannacciano world, Matteo Salvini sides with the governor. «Solidarity with Giovanni Toti and the Ligurian people who have chosen, appreciated and elected him several times: no fury – political or judicial – will stop the determination of the League and the entire Center-Right to work at the service of the Ligurian citizens. We ask ourselves: is it really justice?”.
