During the 2015 pre-season testing in Barcelona, Fernando Alonso was the protagonist of a strange accident, which still remains a great mystery 10 years later.
Alonso and the mysterious accident: what happened?
The cause of what happened it was not made known then and still is not today. There McLaren tried to motivate him with “a sudden gust of wind”but this hypothesis was promptly denied by the two-time world champion, who declared: “Not even a hurricane would cause the car to lose control at that speed.”
“That speed” was around 135 km/h, making the event even more unusual. The most plausible explanationalthough without confirmation, led to the belief that the pilot remained struck down by a failure of the Honda power unit, losing consciousness; and that the Woking team has safeguarded the reputation of the Japanese company, which has just returned to Formula 1 at the time.
In short, Alonso’s accident in Barcelona in the 2015 pre-season tests is one of the greatest “unsolved mysteries” everin motorsport and beyond.
