The four Florentine Coop member sections they receive the Golden Florin for their social commitment in the area. The delivery ceremony was held on the evening of Friday 14 June, on the Arengario of Palazzo Vecchiowhere the outgoing Mayor Dario Nardella delivered the important recognition to the four sections active in the metropolitan city area, on a territory that counts 17 Coop.fi sales points: to collect the Forint Daniela Moripresident of the Supervisory Board of Unicoop Firenze, together with the four presidents of the Coop member sections Cristina Zocchi (Coop members section Florence south west), Franco Lapini (Coop members section Florence north east), Gianna Dalla Luna (Coop members section Florence south east), Viviana Quaglia (Coop members section Florence North West).
The Golden Florin was awarded to the four member sections for the social activities carried out in the area, with the motivation read during the ceremony:
«Golden florin to the Florentine Coop member sections, a community of people who share important values, constantly committed to supporting the territory, to making a difference together, on fundamental issues such as environmental protection, responsible consumption, the fight against waste food, access to culture, well-being, through positive actions and awareness-raising, social and solidarity initiatives that make this consumer cooperative society a true flagship of our territory. The city of Florence awards the Golden Fiorino to the Florentine Coop member sections».
The recognition was greeted with great satisfaction by the four presidents and by Unicoop Firenze.

Our members’ sections are a means of listening and giving voice to the requests and needs of our members and are a meeting point where we can get together, socialize and promote positive actions on fundamental issues such as the environment, culture, well-being and solidarity. We are grateful for this recognition which, for the future, pushes us to work to maintain and consolidate the role that our member sections have been able to assume in the area”, he declared Daniela Mori, president of the Supervisory Board of Unicoop Florence.
Among the most recent and significant activities promoted by the member sections, the two annual events with the food collection, the school collection, the meetings on health and well-being held with doctors and experts, the walks in the area, the reading promotion events linked to Bibliocoop circuit, participation in the Turin Book Fair, environmental activism initiatives with the Educational Forests and Free from Waste projects carried out in city schools.
The Golden Florin it is the highest honor of the city of Florence, awarded on the proposal of Mayorto citizens who, due to their “notorious work in the fields of culture, the arts, work in all its expressions, politics, assistance, philanthropy, sport and international activities, have given particular prestige to the City and the institutions and rendered service to the national and international community and are therefore worthy of being pointed out to the public praise“.
The Golden Florin, ancient coin established at the time of great expansion of Florence, in 1252when more and more merchants, bankers and businessmen were electing the Tuscan city as the Wall Street of the Middle Ages, has a vextraordinary symbolic value for the community of Florence: with its Florentine Lily and the image of San Giovanni, Patron Saint of the City, it represents a special recognition for the activity carried out, as well as a coveted symbol of identity and closeness to the city.
