An escape plan to be able to save half a million people within 72 hours in the event of an eruption of the Campi Flegrei volcano. The plan, anticipated by Repubblica, was developed by the Civil Protection for the first time in 2016 and has recently been modified and is now being examined by the Regions. It must be clarified that it has nothing to do with the bradyseism that has been keeping the population between Naples and Pozzuoli in check for months.
The plan in case of volcano eruption
The hypothesis that would trigger the national emergency plan is that of an eruption of the volcano. A scenario that is not foreseen by scientists to date: at the moment the Campi Flegrei volcano is classified at the yellow alert level. What would trigger the plan is the red color level which would impose a major escape to be implemented within 72 hours on board all means of connection, including buses, ships and trains.
The citizens of Pozzuoli welcomed into Lombardy
In particular, the citizens of Pozzuoli, over 76 thousand, would be welcomed in Lombardy, those of Bacoli (25 thousand) between Umbria and Marche, the over 11 thousand of Monte di Procida between Abruzzo and Molise.
In Lazio the residents of Fuorigrotta
In the event of an eruption, the residents of the Neapolitan neighborhood of Fuorigrotta will have to go to Lazio, route towards Sicily for the Neapolitans of the Chiaia-San Ferdinando neighborhood. But all the Italian regions would be involved in the reception, albeit to a different extent. The plan will be tested in October, with the major exercise on volcanic risk prepared by the Civil Protection. Each area of the territory concerned is combined with an Italian region, each of which is called upon to draw up its own plan to identify first reception points, accommodation, healthcare and services.
Spending 65 euros per person, 150 million per month
The expected expenditure is equal to 65 euros per person, over 5 million euros per day, 150 million in a month. «Not many people participated in the 2019 exercise – recalls the mayor of Bacoli, Josi Della Ragione. I hope there will be many more in October.”
