Explosion in Nussbaumen, a drone pilot blocked rescue operations

The Aargau cantonal police wrote yesterday on social media that during rescue operations the helicopters could no longer fly due to the drones.

One unknown drone pilot hindered rescue operations following the explosion in Nussbaumen (AG) which occurred yesterday evening which caused two dead and eleven injured. In response to the accident, the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) reminded us of the current rules on the matter. Everyone should keep their drone away from police, fire and rescue operations, FOCA wrote today in a post on X. “Land your drone if you see another aircraft, for example a helicopter,” the publication reads , which also reminds us that anyone who violates the rules on drones can be prosecuted.

The Aargau cantonal police wrote on social media at 8.30pm yesterday, during the ongoing rescue operations, that “the rescue helicopters can no longer fly due to the drones”. The respective pilots were urgently asked to “recover the vehicles from the air”. Switzerland adopted the European drone regulation at the beginning of 2023. Among other things, all pilots of such devices are required to register. Exceptions are made in cases where the drone weighs less than 250 grams and is not equipped with a camera, sensor or other device for recording personal data.
