CANADIAN STUDENTS AT CASTEL DI IERI: JOURNEY BETWEEN CULTURE AND HISTORY

A group of students from Calgary, Canada, recently visited Castel di Ieri to explore the country’s most important historical and cultural sites. During their stay, the students had the opportunity to admire the Italic temple, the hermitage of the Madonna di Pietrabona and the ancient village with the medieval watchtower.

The community of Castel di Ieri warmly welcomed the young visitors, offering them an unforgettable experience. As evidence of his gratitude for the visit, the mayor of Castel di Ieri, Fernando Fabrizio, gave the students a symbolic tribute: “an icon representative of the Madonna of Pietrabona, as depicted in the fresco of the main altar, created specifically for a collection funds intended for its restoration and conservation”.

Professors Carolyn Musseig and George Ferzoco, who accompanied the students, received the welcome gift. Both teach on the degree course in history and practice of Abruzzo religious culture at the faculty of humanities and art at the University of Bristol. The visit represented an important moment of cultural exchange and learning, both for the Canadian students and for the local community.

The initiative underlined the importance of preserving historical and cultural heritage and strengthened ties between different international communities, promoting knowledge and appreciation of local traditions.
