Autonomy: the opposition contests the report on yesterday’s episodes in the Chamber

The opposition deputies are contesting, in the Chamber of Deputies, with numerous interventions, at today’s resumption of work, the minutes relating to yesterday’s session when, in the evening, tensions were recorded in the chamber during the examination of the bill Law on Differentiated Autonomy. What triggered the protests of the minorities was the passage, in the reconstruction of the facts, in which we speak of “unrest”, and not of “aggression”, towards the deputy of the Five Star Movement, Leonardo Donno, when the latter attempted to deliver a tricolor flag to the Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomy, Roberto Calderoli. “We demand that in the report it is written that there was not a disorder, but that there was an attack on deputy Donno. Otherwise that is a report that we cannot share”, commented the deputy of the Democratic Party, Debora Serracchiani. “They were not riots, we are faced with a pre-ordained and premeditated attack”, underlined the representative of the Democratic Party, Arturo Scotto, who, addressing Calderoli, added: “Mr. Minister, why are you afraid of that tricolor on which you swore when he became Minister of the Republic?”. Gianni Cuperlo expressed the solidarity of the parliamentary group also from the Democratic Party “to the parliamentary assistants, in particular to the one who was hit during those clashes, during that attack”.

The Action deputy, Fabrizio Benzoni, asked the president of the Chamber, Lorenzo Fontana, that “exemplary measures be taken against all those who were responsible for those acts in the chamber”. Some opposition representatives then invited Fontana himself to immediately convene the Bureau of Montecitorio, set for the time being at the end of the afternoon session of the Chamber, to evaluate what happened yesterday. “There was a squad attack in Donno,” said the M5s deputy, Marco Pellegrini. “Reading a report that does not reproduce the truth of the facts is an offense against the truth. Yesterday the Honorable Donno suffered a very serious attack. You are squadrists”, reported the Five Star MP, Alfonso Colucci, addressing the majority benches. For his part, Giorgio Fede, still from the Five Star Movement, spoke “of a clearly false reconstruction”, while his colleague Vittoria Baldino asked the president of the Assembly, Sergio Costa, not to sign the minutes of the session of yesterday. “We are in parliamentary squadrism and this is unacceptable,” accused the vice-president of the Green and Left Alliance deputies, Marco Grimaldi. “In fact it does not appear that the Honorable Pietrella, of Fratelli d’Italia, was hit by the minority speaker with a crutch. It does not appear that the Honorable Stumpo threw a chair towards these benches. Rightly there are the videos and we will proceed on those”, replied the Fd’I group leader in the Chamber, Tommaso Foti.
