Fear in Leonforte where two fires started yesterday, one near the town centre, the other in the outer belt of the municipality. The intervention of the firefighters and the regional civil protection was necessary, from whose headquarters, in Enna, staff interventions were coordinated to try to contain the action of the flames.

The situation became more serious in the afternoon, around 4.30 pm, when the firefighters asked for support to stop the wall of flames and at the same time provide assistance to the population.
The sewer bursts
And so, the regional civil protection, directed by Paolo Fulco, sent three volunteers and a vehicle from Nissoria but, before dinner time, a manhole exploded, linked to the sewer system, which forced the rescuers to overtime.
15 families evacuated
The mayor of Leonforte, Piero Livolsi, was also on site and after a consultation with the firefighters, 15 families, a total of 37 people, whose homes are located close to the site of the explosion, were evacuated. More reinforcements from the Civil Protection have arrived, in particular 7 volunteers from Monte la Stella di Assoro went to Leonforte with two emergency vehicles and at the same time 5 volunteers from the Civil Protection of Leonforte and an ambulance were added. “Fortunately, no people were injured” as architect Paolo Fulco told ViviEnna, there was certainly a lot of apprehension.
“Maybe biogas leak”
The families spent the night with relatives and friends who hosted them but as to what may have happened the mayor of Leonforte makes a first hypothesis on the basis of the discussions he had with the rescuers and is linked to the presence of biogas.
