The accident occurred during the night, causing minor damage to the building. Carabinieri investigations are underway; excluding fraud.
PRAIA A MARE, 10 JUNE. – During the night, three gas cylinders exploded on the terrace of a two-storey building in the municipality of Praia a Mare, causing minor damage to the building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The explosion occurred around 3am today on one of the upstairs balconies. At that moment the apartment was uninhabited: the occupants, a family from Campania who had rented the apartment for a short holiday, had left it in the afternoon to return to their region. The owner of the house, a local craftsman, was present in his home on the lower floor and was startled awake by the explosion.
A team of firefighters from the Scalea detachment intervened at the scene of the accident. From the first investigations carried out, no elements emerged that suggest a malicious act. The three gas cylinders were connected to a system to supply the apartment.
The police from the local station intervened immediately and started investigations to determine the nature of the explosion. Investigations are continuing to establish whether there were any negligence or malfunctions in the gas system that may have caused the explosion.
