ROME. Thirties Nadia Battocletti wins gold in the 5000 meters final. Fourth medal for Italy with the middle distance runner breaking the European championships record with 14:35.29.

Nadia won the gold medal with the new Italian and championship record (14’35″29). Silver for the Norwegian Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal (14’38″62), bronze for the Spanish Marta Garcia (14’44” 04); seventh the other Italian Federica Del Buono (15’00″05). At the end of the first day of finals, Italy thus finished with two golds (Palmisano and Battocletti) and two silvers (Trapletti and mixed 4×400 relay).

“Doing a race like this with this time satisfies me a lot and repays me for the sacrifices made.” An emotional Nadia Battocletti said this on Sky Sport. “It’s not like me to shout and scream when I win, but it’s the cherry on top I needed. I couldn’t wait to start reaping the benefits again,” she added. Speaking about the race she explained: “I’m really very happy with what I put on the field today, I didn’t arrive convinced, but with some fear.
