31 poisoned students and teachers

Two identical episodes in just over half an hour. Panic among students and professors. About thirty mildly intoxicated people were assisted on site or taken to hospital in non-serious conditions. And two investigations by the Carabinieri and the police to trace those responsible for the “shenanigans” on the last day of school. Yes, because the pepper spray raids took place in two institutions which will be transformed into polling stations for the European elections over the weekend and which therefore closed their doors twenty-four hours early yesterday.

The first blitz in chronological order took place a few minutes before 10.30 am inside the Oriani Mazzini, in the Inganni area. According to initial information, at recess an as yet unidentified pupil set off a can of stinging substance in a corridor. Within a few seconds, the small cloud caused irritation to the nose and throat of some of the technician’s students, who initially did not understand what was happening and why they were feeling sick at the same time. The staff immediately alerted 112, prompting the intervention of the firefighters and medical workers from Areu, who arrived in via Pisa with two ambulances and a medical car: only a sixteen-year-old needed a ride to the San Carlo emergency room , while seven others, including five students and two teachers, were assisted on site. The carabinieri from the San Cristoforo station and the Compagnia Magenta also intervened at the Oriani Mazzini and immediately started investigative investigations to quickly trace the person responsible.

After an air check by the firefighters, who found no dangers, lessons resumed regularly. From what emerges, it is not the first time that some students have used the spray in the Inganni institute: during the school year that has just ended, it had already happened twice, in the classrooms, although with much more limited consequences. At 11, another alarm, this time at the Marelli-Dudovich in via Livigno, a stone’s throw from Piazzale Maciachini. There the toll was decidedly more worrying, fortunately only due to the number of people: 23, all underage students, were taken to the emergency room by Areu’s vehicles (five ambulances and a medical car); of these, four ended up at Buzzi, three at San Carlo, four at Fatebenefratelli, three at the De Marchi clinic, three at San Paolo and six at Niguarda.

Agents from the decentralized Command 9 of the local police also arrived at the school to manage traffic and policemen from the General Prevention Office of the Police Headquarters to collect the testimonies of the students and try to identify who used the stinging substance against their classmates.
