What future for the so-called “Mushroom” of Garbatolathe seven-storey building that has stood between via Europa and via XX Settembre since the 1990s and is today in a state of complete abandonment? The League of Nerviano asks thiswho after seeing the month begin within the area of the 3.5 million euro building renovation works – as reported by the construction site itself – presented an interpellation for ask the administration «for an update regarding the ongoing construction siteon the agreement and the related guarantee methods, with particular reference to the planned public works”.

«In the municipal council last January – the councilors Massimo Cozzi, Alba Airaghi and David Guainazzi underline in the document -, responding to our question on the subject, the councilor for the Territory Panini said: “When the property proposal is presented, obviously if it is within the limits that the legislation provides as the council’s power, there will certainly be a passage to the commission; if it is the faculty of the city council, it will pass through the city council, there are no discussions on this. The content of the convention is and remains.”».

After theyet another report of the presence of squatters arrived by former mayor Cozzi in recent weeks, when “some people were seen entering the building with shopping bags”, the “Mushroom” stories are once again being discussed. Work on the construction of the property began in 1991, now over 30 years ago. The building, created as a hotel and then transformed into a property for residential or office use in 2009, however, it actually remained unfinished. From then on, the history of the “Mushroom” was marked graffiti, vandalism, abandonment of waste and actual looting. Today the “Mushroom” and the plot of land surrounding it have a new owner after the award at the 2022 auction, by which time the base price for the sale had dropped from the initial 7 million euros to one million, with the possibility, however, of submitting offers starting from 750 thousand euros, and perhaps finally for the building a new future looms.
