Giampedrone appointed commissioner against the collapse in Liguria

GENOA, 05 JUN – The Meloni Government gives the go-ahead, with a decree signed by the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, to the appointment of the Councilor for Soil Defense of the Liguria Region Giacomo Giampedrone as commissioner ad acta for works against hydrogeological instability in Liguria. The councilor will temporarily replace the President of the Region Giovanni Toti who is currently suspended from office due to being under house arrest since 7 May. “We assessed together with the councilor and the ministry that this was the best solution – explains the interim president of the Liguria Region Alessandro Piana – also in light of the delegations and the great work done to date. The shared objective is to continue completing the interventions already underway and implementing those planned to make Liguria increasingly safer with respect to hydrogeological risk”. “I take on the temporary role while also thanking the president, now suspended from office, for all the work done – comments Giampedrone – with the hope that he can return as soon as possible”. Among the main tasks of the commissioner are the management in particular of the works relating to the construction of the Bisagno torrent spillway and the completion of the safety intervention on the Via dell’Amore alle Cinque Terre between Riomaggiore and Manarola, which will be definitively reopened by ‘summer. The Via dell’Amore was closed in 2012 following a landslide which injured some foreign tourists.
