Vobarno flood: after the fear, the damage calculation

Valle Sabbia is licking its wounds after the flood which transformed the streets into real rivers yesterday afternoon. Vobarno is the most affected municipality, in particular the hamlet of Collio where the stream broke its banks, flooding the town. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but around thirty people, including residents and some holidaymakers, remained isolated. Disturbances and damage also occurred in the hamlet of Degagna, where a landslide blocked the access road.

Several teams from the Brescia and Salò Fire Brigade arrived on site, with the support of specialists from the GOS (Special Operational Group) unit, equipped with earthmoving vehicles to clear the access routes to the areas most affected by the flood. To ensure rescue and the safety of the people involved, 70 firefighters were on the field. Reinforcements were also needed from the commands of Mantua, Lodi, Sondrio, Bergamo and Cremona.

After a night of incessant work by rescuers and residents, the situation is returning to normal. The mud remains and the amazement remains at what was unexpectedly thrown onto the town in the space of just about ten minutes. After the storm, it’s time to count the damage.
