From 15 June in the Egadi islands an ordinance from Mayor Forgione will come into force which aims to prevent forest fires.

Mayor Forgione has issued an ordinance prohibiting the lighting of fires in the Egadi islands starting from 15 June, with the aim of preventing forest fires and guaranteeing the safety of the municipal territory. The measure will be in force until October 15 and imposes several provisions. It is in fact forbidden to light fires of any kind and throw lit materials such as matches, cigars and cigarettes on the municipal territory. Furthermore, it is prohibited to use naked flame or electric appliances near woods, agricultural land and areas with flammable vegetation. Landowners must carry out necessary cleanups to eliminate potential fire sources. Along public and private roads, it is instead necessary to maintain a safety strip free of brushwood and dry vegetation. Public bodies must keep communication areas clean without removing vital trees and shrubs during cleaning operations. LPG and diesel system dealers must keep an area of at least 10 meters around the tanks free of vegetation. Violations of the provisions of the ordinance will be subject to administrative sanctions and, in case of non-compliance, a report will be filed with the Judicial Authority.
