the ordinance arrives to prevent forest fires

Starting from June 15th and for the entire summer season, it will be forbidden to light fires of any kind in the Egadi islands. He has it an ordinance from the mayor Francesco Forgione, time to prevent the risk of forest fires and to guarantee the safety of the municipal territory.

The measure, which will remain in force until October 15thprovides the following provisions:
1. It is strictly forbidden to light fires of any kind.
2. The burning of agricultural and forestry plant residues is prohibited, including mowing, pruning and on-site cleaning.
3. It is forbidden to throw matches, cigars, cigarettes and any other lit or incandescent material from vehicles or leave them on the ground.
4. It is prohibited, near woods, agricultural land, along roads bordering areas with easily flammable vegetation, parks and urban pine forests within the municipal territory, to use open flame or electric appliances that produce sparks, smoking, throwing matches, cigars, cigarettes or carrying out other operations that could generate an open flame or create a fire hazard, carry out pyrotechnic activities and light fireworks without the necessary authorisations.
5. The owners or managers of rustic properties, urban and agricultural green areas, villas, buildings with attached green areas, building and road sites, tourist, artisanal and commercial structures must carry out cleaning and reclamation works to eliminate elements that may represent a source of fire, with particular attention to dry vegetation and waste.
6. The brushwood and dry vegetation in the vicinity of public and private roads must be eliminated for a buffer zone of at least 10 metres, extended to 20 meters for owners or managers of campsites, tourist villages, holiday farms, hotels and accommodation facilities.
7. Public bodies that own or are responsible for areas and roads must keep the shoulders and embankments of communication routes clean.
8. During cleaning work, vital trees and shrubs with a productive, ornamental or soil protection function must be preserved.
9. Licensees of external LPG and diesel systems must keep the area surrounding the tank clear and free of vegetation for a radius of at least 10 metres.

Violations will be punished with administrative fines. In case of non-compliance, a complaint will be forwarded to the judicial authority.
