Gaza, “Axios”: a Hamas delegation in Cairo today for talks on a truce proposal

A delegation from the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas is expected today in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, for talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators regarding the latest Israeli proposal for a truce in the Gaza Strip. Two sources familiar with the matter reported this to the information site “Axios”. Meanwhile, the United States has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council to support Israel’s latest proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and urge Hamas to accept it now. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US permanent representative to the UN, said in a statement that “several leaders and governments, including in the region, have supported this plan”. In the text, the United States welcomes the proposal announced by President Joe Biden last week, adding that Hamas must “accept it in its entirety and implement its terms without conditions”.

For his part, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated yesterday to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Knesset (the single-chamber parliament of the Jewish State) that the proposed agreement to reach a truce in Gaza presented by President Biden is “incomplete ”. According to the prime minister, there are “gaps” between the Israeli version and what the US president announced. “The war will stop to bring back the hostages, and then we will have discussions. There are other details that the US president has not presented to the public,” Netanyahu said.
