The photo above shows the medal celebratory gift given to the players of the Lazio for the 26-23 victory obtained in the Serie A promotion play-off against Cus Torino and the consequent promotion to Serie A Elite for the next 2024/25 season. As you can see, it says “Italian men’s championship Serie A 2022/23“. That is, the one from the last competitive season. And not Serie A 2023/24, i.e. the current one. Below, however, the date and location where the match was played are correct: Prato 1 June 2024.
Error and carelessness
This is probably a misprint by the sports equipment company that you rely on Italian rugby federation. It can happen, nothing serious. Just notice it and correct it, as you do with a typo before it is published. The serious fact is that no one in Fir noticed it. Not so much (or not only) the president Marzio Innocenti or the deputy Antonio Luisi, who were criticized in the post of the former general secretary of the Fir Claudio Perruzza, who released the photo of the sensational error. How much of the entire federal chain that goes from the two of them down to the last employee. Is it possible that no one looked at those medals? The story gives the idea of sloppiness, neglect, disinterest towards the championships and their protagonists. Italian rugby doesn’t deserve it. There’s no point in boasting about victories in the Six Nations or qualification for the Urc, if the grassroots level is treated like this.
Perruzza: “They are incompetent”
Let’s console ourselves with a fact. That wrong medal will become a collectible sought after among collectors. But the substance does not change. Here is the post with which Perruzza, removed from his role when Innocenti became president of the Fir, disclosed the photo of the medal, clear proof of the federal misdeed: «This is the medal that vice president Luisi, representing president Marzio Innocenti, gave to the players of Lazio Rugby 1927 after the final of the 2023/2024 Serie A Championship…I don’t know whether to laugh or cry…I I said that they were incapable of everything and no one believed me!!!”.
