Olmo wins the 57th Relay of the Neighborhoods of Orvieto

ORVIETO – Olmo won the 57th edition of the Orvieto Neighborhoods Relay. The green and whites prevailed in an exciting head-to-head with the Stella district made up of overtaking and counter-overtaking. The eleven members of Olmo crossed the picturesque finish line in Piazza Duomo in front of thousands of people, completing the 930 meter course in a time of 27’11” and 81 hundredths ahead of Stella (27’25″29), third place for the Corsica (28’09”08), Serancia fourth (29’19”97). For Olmo it is the 13th victory in the history of the Staffetta whose Roll of Honor is still led by Stella and Corsica with 15 victories, while Serancia has 3 successes.

The three best participants were awarded: the best time ever was recorded by Leonardo Giammorcaro dell’Olmo (2’25″55), among the masters the fastest was Gabriele Frescucci (Stella), Italian Master champion in the 5 kilometers on road and in the 10 kilometers on the track which also had the honor of lighting the tripod, with 2’38″58, while among the women the cup went to Anna Gnagnarini from Olmo (1’06″58) in the half hamlet dedicated to them. For the four women competing Cecilia Rellini (Corsica), Giada Provenzani (Serancia), and Caterina Manca (Stella) also received recognition from the Panathlon Club Orvieto, a ceramic tile in memory of their participation. Also noteworthy is the performance of the youngest athlete in the competition, 14-year-old Jonathan Spagnuolo (2’36”03), fresh winner of the national final of the Student Sports Games in Pescara.

The “Andrea Pedichini Award”, established last year by the Olmo district, went to Angelo Angiolillo.

Before the “adults” race, the colorful spectacle of the races reserved for the little ones was staged in Piazza Duomo with over 300 participants. The Corsica district dominated, winning the mini relay (for children up to 5 years old), the elementary school relay (up to 11 years old) and the middle school relay. The Staffetta dei Quartieri is an event organized by the Municipality of Orvieto with the precious collaboration of Atletica Libertas Orvieto. The municipal administration thanks the local police and the civil protection for ensuring the smooth running of the competitions and the sponsors Ire4, Fiorenzi, Vivaio Sensi and Farmacia Bonifazi.
