PlayStation VR2 arrives on PC, it’s official! Adapter revealed with price and release date

PlayStation VR2 finally becomes the multiplatform headset it should have been since launch. Sony has in fact presented the new official adapter that will allow owners of the PlayStation 5 viewer to also be able to use it on PC, thus accessing a series of titles that give much more meaning to the purchase of the device. Among them, Half-Life Alyx certainly stands out, so much so that it earned the cover in the announcement photo.

PlayStation VR2: price, release date, installation and minimum requirements

This PC adapter, priced at €59.99, will be very user friendly. In fact, simply connect PlayStation VR2 to your PC using the adapter and DisplayPort 1.4 cable and download the PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR app. By doing this, you will be able to use the viewer on your computer, provided of course that you respect the suggested system requirements.

Sony recommends at least an Intel Core i5-7600 or an AMD Ryzen 3 3100 along with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 3060 or an AMD Raedon RX 6600XT. To be honest, Sony also includes more modest cards, but the VR experience is unlikely to be satisfactory on such underperforming hardware. At least Windows 10 64-bit required.

Unfortunately, some things will be missing on PC. In fact, the haptic feedback of the viewer will not be present, as will eye tracking, HDR and adaptive triggers. The rest of the features will remain unchanged, therefore being able to count on two OLED panels (2000×2040) which bring the resolution to 4K, 110° field of view, tactile finger detection, Foveated Rendering, 3D Audio and transparent view. The release is set for August 7, 2024 and the headset will be compatible with the entire Steam library, including games like Fallout 4VR and Half-Life Alyx.
