Is there anything sadder than seeing a shiny supercar reduced to a pile of scrap? Obviously, the question is provocative, however it cannot really be said that certain episodes leave indifferent, at least lovers of beautiful cars. On this occasion the “victim” of the moment comes from Italy: la Lamborghini Urus. A strong piece of the range, at the top of the brand’s commercial charts, despite the criticism that rained down upon its debut. Fans tied to old traditions struggled to accept the idea of seeing the Toro coat of arms affixed to a bodywork different from the classic sports cars. Perhaps forgetting that the company’s first off-road vehicle dated back many decades earlier, to the second half of the 1980s, with the launch of the LM002.
A jewel in smoke
Like arch-rival Ferrari and its Purosangue, the choice to throw itself into an SUV seemed like heresy to a niche. While the Prancing Horse model competes for the title of best-selling Ferrari in 2024, the Lamborghini Urus in turn has equally gained converts. The strong and muscular lines, combined with the perception of solidity, have earned it worldwide success. No car is, however, unbreakable and the driver of the story brought to light by NBC Miami serves as a reminder.
On Monday 27 May, a Lamborghini Urus was involved in a spin, which led it to crash violently into the guardrail. The devastating impact caused the complete destruction of the high-performance Sport Utilities. In the images we see it reduced to a pile of twisted metal sheets, with the bodywork perforated and the windows shattered. According to reconstructions, the Lamborghini Urus would have been involved in one collision with a Ford Mustang red in colour, which also presents damage events on the driver’s side. Apparently, the collision occurred near the exit towards Griffin Road. Having lost control, the Urus had a disastrous skid.
Dynamics to clarify
At the moment, the exact dynamics of the accident and the responsibilities of the drivers remain to be clarified. Having promptly rushed to the scene, the police closed the exit ramp, causing considerable disruption to traffic. In local media and social networks, the accident aroused great resonance, where users expressed messages of “condolence” to the Urus. With a mixture of bitterness and biting irony, they commented on the story, which could have had a much worse outcome. In fact, the reconstructions do not report any particular damage to the occupants of the vehicles.
Recently, another video depicting a Lamborghini had also shocked the people of the internet. In that case, the owner of a Huracán Evo, again smashed to smithereens, after chasing the thief who had just stolen a Rolex from him. Subsequent reconstructions will allow us to understand what the triggering factor was crash between the Urus and the Mustang. We don’t dare imagine the expense to be incurred by the body shop to put the Italian racing car back in perfect condition. But we imagine it is a relative problem for those who own it, having been able to afford it, despite the high entry threshold of the SUV on the price list, above 230,000 euros.
