GUBBIO – Fabrizio Bei never stops celebrating. The Luxembourg champion’s long days are a continuous transition from one emotion to another. He is enjoying the championship, overwhelmed by the affection of family and friends on the Differdange-Gubbio axis because the entrepreneur has Gubbio blood and origins of which he is very proud. He has been the president of Differdange 03 for about twenty years, which won the title with two days to spare. In the formula with 16 teams between the home and away matches, they reached 66 points in 30 days (the result of 19 wins, 9 draws and 2 defeats with 70 goals scored and 23 conceded), compared to 61 for Dudelange, who were also beaten in the second leg at home 2-0 after the 2-2 away in the first leg.
The Luxembourg BGL League has seen him as a protagonist since 2003 when he worked at the forefront of the merger of two clubs, Red Boys Differdange and Differdange, both militants in the Division of Honour, the second series. The new club, under his presidency, then obtained promotion to the top division of the national championship in the 2005-2006 season. Bei was able to be patient by building competitive teams to reach the highly desired finish line with the prospect of celebrating his birthday in the best possible way when he turns 57 on June 10th.
Strong emotions
«I am happy – says Bei -, it is a goal that I have set for myself since I became president. We won the national cup five times and we wanted this championship which I dedicate to my mother Giuseppina who passed away twenty years ago. I am sharing my joy with family and friends in Gubbio, with whom we chat and keep in touch every day, I invited them to come to Differdange to party together. I will return to Gubbio soon, after all I always come willingly when I can. Roots are important and I care a lot about them.”
After the last day he wanted a huge celebration with the whole community and enthusiastically welcomed a delegation from Gubbio, led by Isidoro Angeloni who let himself be overcome by emotions: «We are all happy for him, he deserved it because we know how much effort he has been putting in for years now. The scudetto is the reward for Bei’s personal qualities and the strength of an environment that thrives on passion.”
There was an extraordinary atmosphere at the party, enthralling with Mayor Guy Altmeisch at the head surrounded by many fans who led the protagonists to triumph. The team is coached by the forty-five year old Portuguese Pedro Resende with several Italians on the staff, starting with the defender Gianluca Bei, born in 1995, son of the president, with a double Luxembourg and Italian passport. In the squad there are Argentine, Portuguese, Brazilian and of course Luxembourg players.
The city, in the south-west of the country, has around 29 thousand inhabitants and boasts the Stade Municipale de la Ville de Differdange, the largest and most modern of the club stadiums in Luxembourg, which has a total population of 660 thousand, of which over 25 thousand are Italians . The facility was built 7 years ago with a capacity of 3,800 spectators, smaller than the Stade de Luxembourg alone which holds almost 10,000 and is reserved only for national team matches and cup finals. The Differdange stadium hosted a qualifying match for the Under 21 European Championship on 6 June 2022 between Luxembourg and Italy, won by the Azzurri led by Paolo Nicolato with goals from Vignato, Pellegri and Gaetano, amid the enthusiasm of the Italians who live there. Now they will prepare for the Champions League preliminaries after having participated in the Europa League, entering the playoffs twice and having hosted Paris Saint-Germain in Differdange with Pastore’s European debut.
