There Ferrari is preparing to face a period of intense work for the construction of the new Power Unit (PU) scheduled for 2026. Enrico Gualtieri, Power Unit Technical Director of the Maranello team, outlined the importance and challenge of this month for the development of the new engine.
“We are entering a very challenging phase,” Gualtieri told GpBlog. “2024 will be the key year in which we will have to put all the components together. Every single piece is under development and the work is becoming more and more intense and complex. The challenge we face is enormous, as it is for all power unit manufacturers.”
Development and integration of components
Gualtieri explained that each manufacturer follows its own development calendar, but Ferrari is already testing some components of the new PU on the test bench. “Each company has its own times and phases of development. We are testing some parts and units, but the real integration work will take place in the next month,” added Gualtieri. 2024 will be a decisive year for Ferrari, as all the components developed will have to be integrated and tested together to ensure a competitive PU ready for future challenges. This period of intense work is fundamental to the success of the Italian team in the near future.
