In this aspect, China has acquired a huge advantage, given that it builds batteries by spending less than European and American brands, thus being able to afford lower list prices.
A saying goes, “if you can’t beat the enemy, ally with him“, and that is precisely what Renault has chosen to do for the Twingo of future. The target is to ally with a brand from the country of the Dragon, in order to be able to reduce costs as much as possible in setting up the new model
Renault, looking for a Chinese partner for the Twingo
For the production of the new Renault Twingo, there has been talk for some time of an agreement between the Losanga company and Volkswagen, which faded just recently. As reported by “Automotive News Europe“, the French company is now looking for a new partner from China, well aware of the technological advantage that this country has acquired in the electric sector
We remind you that the new Twingo project is managed by the division Amperes, which deals with the French brand’s BEVs with the aim of creating a car that can be a low-cost one. In particular, the price of the new one Electric Twingo could cost around 20,000 euros. A price not far from that of the cheapest electric on the European market which is the Dacia Spring, which costs only 17,990 euros.
If Renault’s plans materialize, the new low-cost car could be produced in 2026. However, given the lack of agreement with Volkswagen and the need to find a new partner, it is likely that the debut will take place, even if there are no plans yet officiality.
The challenge to many other electric vehicles such as the BYD Seagull is however launched, with the aim of also competing in terms of price. Chinese cars have the aim of breaking the bank in Europe and local brands must respond quickly to defend themselves. We’ll see if the French brand succeeds in its aim.
