Below is the oral question presented by the municipal councilors of Rieti, Angela Di Marco and Carlo Ubertini, regarding the management and strategic issues relating to the municipal kennel:
GIVEN THAT
The phenomenon of stray animals represents a significant problem for public health, the safety of citizens and the well-being of the animals themselves
GIVEN THAT
The city of Rieti, with a population close to fifty thousand inhabitants, does not have an authentic shelter kennel as required by law
GIVEN THAT
The difficulties that are encountered on a daily basis in the management of the municipal kennel, from the inadequacy of the dog shelter to the lack of supply of food and medicines, so much so that the voluntary association that operates there is exposed to considerable uncompensated expenses, determine a total unsustainability of the existing condition
WHEREAS
The commitment to build a shelter kennel is engraved in the programmatic lines of the current Administration, with the related indication in the three-year plan of the sum of 500,000 euros
WHEREAS
The construction of a shelter kennel represents the best solution for all the problems revolving around the theme of the management of stray animals, the health and safety of citizens and the care of animals, from the health aspect to the final one of adoption
YOU QUESTION THIS ADMINISTRATION TO FIND OUT MORE

• What are the timescales and actual resources to fulfill the programmatic purpose of building a shelter kennel in our city, and whether access to regional, national and European funds has been concretely considered for this objective?
• How we intend to involve citizens and animal welfare associations in awareness campaigns and initiatives to support the overall management of the kennel
• What collaboration programs with schools and other local institutions are planned, in order to educate young people about respect for animals and their care
