G7 BRINDISI – OUTCOME OF MEETING AT THE DEPARTMENT

Yesterday, Tuesday 21 May, in the Planisphere Room of the Coordination and Planning Office of the Police Forces, the meeting chaired by the Prefect Dr. Sergio Bracco was held regarding the organizational and logistical profiles of the services of the next G7 Summit which will take place in Puglia between 13 and 15 June next.

Below is a summary of the topics addressed:

SHIFT OF SERVICE

  • For security services, the expected working hours will be divided into non-continuous shifts 8/14 – 14/20 and 7/13 – 13/19, and into continuous so-called fifth shifts with the hours 19/01-13/19-07 /13 and 01/07;
  • the nine First Managers and the nine Deputy Quaestors attached to the Brindisi Police Headquarters and the three Chief Commissioners attached to the Bari Police Headquarters will observe a working schedule with shifts 6/14 – 14/22 – 22/06;
  • the staff on escort duty from 13 to 16 June will be employed on an 8/20 shift. Furthermore, a number of 18 employees, on rotation, will work the shift starting from 20/08;
  • the staff will be accommodated partly in local hotel facilities and partly on the Costa Magica cruise ship, which will dock at the port of Brindisi on 9 June at 7.00 am and will remain moored there until the following day, 17 June;
  • meal times will be as follows: breakfast from 5 to 9; lunch from 11am to 3pm and dinner from 5pm to 10pm. For delivered meals, estimates are expected from some specialized companies and around 150 meals are expected per day, and in case of emergency the ship’s catering service will prepare bags;
  • on the Costa Magica the presence of an official will always be guaranteed who will carry out support, coordination and reference tasks for all staff housed on board;
  • chemical toilets and gazebos will be installed at each checkpoint, while the water supply service will be guaranteed by the Civil Protection;
  • 4 hours of overtime per capita are foreseen per day, the amount of which will be credited with the July month’s salary, while those in excess will be channeled into the 3rd Basket.

HEALTH SUPPORT

  • The support service in the event of a health emergency will be organized in the cities of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. The three units in Brindisi will be located as follows: one at the port and the service will be ensured by a doctor, a nurse and the ambulance driver who will observe the 24-hour shift; the other two at the Health Office and in Savelletri, and the staff employed there will carry out work shifts from 8am to 2pm – 2pm to 8pm. The garrison in Bari will be carried out in the same way as that at the port of Bari. Finally, the garrison in Taranto will be guaranteed with the local Health Office. The support service will be coordinated by a First Medical Director located at the Bari Police Headquarters;
  • as regards the planned 12-hour training course for the qualification to use the bag and baggage control scanner, we have proposed that it can be carried out before the event; the Administration reserved the right to evaluate the feasibility of the proposal;
  • all Mobile Departments will contribute to the Public Order service with the exception of the Sicilian ones;
  • finally, in consideration of the fact that the device described above will involve personnel from various police stations, the Department has deemed it necessary to aggregate 1878 probationary officers of the 225th course, to compete in the polling station surveillance services during the next electoral consultations. They will arrive at the various locations on June 7th and will leave the following day on the 11th.
