Sanità Valsugana and Tesino, the meeting in the area

The health councilor, in underlining his full availability to listen to the needs of the territories, explained the need to implement a planning response to the challenges that await us in the future, the birth rate and the aging of the population, he highlighted the desire to invest in healthcare personnel and to start, within the horizon of the legislature, the process of creating the new hospital centre. He then highlighted the fundamental role of local hospitals and welcomed the input of connecting the Borgo hospital with the Degree course in Medicine, then highlighting that relations between Medicine and the territories will have to be increasingly intensified . And this also in view of the birth of the integrated territorial university company, as Dr. Ferro recalled, within which San Lorenzo will also have a crucial function as a piece of the widespread territorial network, especially in some areas.

The new hospital in Borgo Valsugana will allow some crucial areas to be merged and made more efficient, such as the operating theater and dialysis, as well as reorganizing and expanding the emergency room area. The project envisaged intervening on the hospital with an expansion and partial renovation of the original building to guarantee welcoming and comfortable spaces with easy-to-understand paths for users, as well as organisational, structural, plant engineering and technological standards in line with the criteria of safety (modernization of the operating block complete with medical technologies). The works began in November 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, during the intervention some unpredictable circumstances emerged which are impacting the works, from the high cost of materials to regulatory changes, from new clinical needs to Covid itself which imposed a review and strengthening of the routes. The western expansion is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2025.

The investment “Towards a safe and sustainable hospital” must also be considered, which has the objective of aligning the hospital structures with the anti-seismic regulations and in particular with the seismic improvement interventions of the existing structure: considering the age of the existing building and the structural criticalities that emerged during the structural investigations for the PNRR works, it is necessary to plan new designs and new investments to intervene in batches on the original structure of the hospital, as part of a multi-year planning, to simultaneously guarantee both the seismic improvement of the various blocks both the improvement and modernization of the structure compared to current standards.
There are two variations in total to the works, one linked to the seismic improvement of block 2, the other linked to the expansion.
The new updated economic framework for the Borgo hospital therefore envisages a total expenditure of approximately 22 million euros, while the completion of the western expansion is scheduled for the end of summer 2025.

During the meeting, the Borgo Valsugana Community House was also discussed: part of the functions will find space in the so-called “New Building”, where an intervention is underway, in the procurement phase, which will improve the energy efficiency of the structure, financed under the PNRR for 1,270,000 euros. The intervention linked to the former sanatorium building is being studied in depth: the investigations have highlighted the need for a static consolidation of the complex structure, furthermore it is necessary to coordinate, for planning reasons, with the expansion and renovation works of the hospital .
