Do iPhones sell poorly? Apple also lowers prices to compete with Huawei in China

Apple faces competition from Huawei in the Chinese market and to defend its position in the high-end smartphone market, the Cupertino company has launched a new discount campaign for selected models of its iPhones on sale in the country of the dragon.

Compared to the one launched in China in February which included discounts of up to 1,150 yuan (around 146 euros), Apple’s commercial initiative valid from 20 to 28 May is even more aggressive, with discounts reaching 2,300 yuan (around 293 euros) .

Apple launches an aggressive discount campaign on iPhones for sale in China

According to the agency Reuters the largest discount applies to the 1TB iPhone 15 Pro Max model, but other models also have significant price reductions. For example, the basic 128GB iPhone 15 has a discount of 1,400 yuan, corresponding to approximately 178 euros.

According to what reported by Reuters, Apple’s move is linked to increased competitive pressure resulting from the fact that Huawei presented its new Huawei Pura 70 series of high-end smartphones last month.

According to Reuters calculations based on data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), Apple’s shipments in China rose 12% in March, marking a significant improvement from the first two months of 2024, when the company recorded a 37% drop in sales.

We’ll see if this second wave of discounts will also help Apple mitigate the slowdown in sales in China.
