(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 21 – A colonel of the Cairo investigative police would have been in possession of Giulio Regeni’s passport before carrying out the search, on 24 March 2016, in the house where one of the criminal gang who was falsely accused lived of Giulio’s murder. The document was later found in that apartment by the Egyptian authorities. This is what emerges from an audio that the Rome Prosecutor’s Office asked to acquire in the documents of the trial against four members of the Egyptian secret services. According to Deputy Prosecutor Sergio Colaiocco, the audio was made by a witness who listened to one of the people present in the apartment during the police search. The judges reserved their decision. A video was then shown in the courtroom, taken from open sources and already known in Italy, in which the relatives of the alleged criminal gang are interviewed. From their statements and based on what was reported by the ROS colonel, Onofrio Panebianco, it also emerged that some objects, such as the wallet, glasses case and earphone, found in the apartment and handed over to the Italian investigators years later, did not belong to Regeni.
